Put your mask on and secure it before helping others
If you have been directed to use oxygen, as is common with a loss of cabin pressure, put your mask on and secure it before helping other passengers. You may have as little as 15 seconds to do this before you begin to feel faint, and you cannot help other passengers if you are unconscious. When evacuating or moving in a smoke filled aircraft, protect your airway with a damp cloth over your nose and mouth.
An oxygen mask will drop down automatically from a compartment above your head: place it over your head, fasten the straps, and breathe normally. Fasten your own mask before helping others.
In the event of a decompression, an oxygen mask will automatically drop from a compartment above your seat. To start the flow of oxygen, pull the mask towards you. Place it firmly over your nose and mouth, secure the elastic band behind your head, and breathe normally. Although the bag does not inflate, oxygen is flowing to the mask. Fasten your own mask before helping others.

Por isso, primeiro coloque a máscara em você mesmo, para somente depois ajudar os outros.
Na realidade, para mim este "ensinamento" foi um pouquinho além do meu constante vôo na ponte-aérea São Paulo-Washington... serviu para mostrar que a política do "ema-ema-ema-não-é-meu-problema" não está de todo errada... Para poder ajudar alguém, esteja bem primeiro.
