Police radio outage delays Cleveland police
Fox 28
CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) -- Cleveland police say 911 callers were left waiting when the dispatchers' radio system went down for about two hours.
Officers couldn't be reached through the system during Monday morning's crash, and utility workers, firefighters and Emergency Medical Services also were affected.
It took about 40 minutes for the city to distribute portable radios to police officers. Until the backup plan was in place, responses to 911 calls were delayed and dispatchers had to phone district police stations about the most serious situations.
No injuries were reported as a result of the delays.
The outage was the third and longest this year. The mayor's office says Cleveland will begin shopping around for a new radio system in January.

CARLSBAD - The Eddy County Sheriff's Department is experiencing a telephone service outage affecting its non-emergency telephone lines. The department's Emergency 911 system is not affected, officials said.
"If you have an emergency, continue to dial 911," said Chief Deputy Ernie Mendoza. "Please do not use the 911 system for non-emergency calls."
The number for non-emergency calls to the Eddy County Sheriff's Department is 575-885-6594.
The outage began at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and is impacting the department's VoIP - voice over Internet protocol - lines, said Mendoza. He said the outage appears to be widespread and has been reported in New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Utah and Arizona.
There is no current estimate of when the system will be restored, Mendoza said.
